Sophie's Care Package Today, I received a brown paper package tied up with string. Now, you know how I feel about brown paper packages tied up with string. But this one was different. It was different because of its source, its sender and its contents. I knew it contained food.
Let me put this in context for you. Whenever I receive an express post package from up North I know it's going to contain either carefully bundled sweet pea blooms or gardenia's lovingly picked from Mum's garden or sweet, delectable, delicious and highly fattening treats. I call them Care Packages.
Today's package was not sent by my Mother. It was sent by Sophie, also from up North. We call Sophie the Black Sheep of the family: not because she's a rat bag, but because she literally has very dark hair. We think we're funny!
Anyway, my Sister met Sophie in her first year of Uni. Kris brought Sophie home one weekend and it was quickly and unanimously decided that Soph was a keeper and she officially received her moniker there and then. When Soph laughs, we all laugh until we keel over in pain. We have shared so many outrageously funny moments with this woman. We have also shared and continue to share many common life experiences, good and bad.
So, when I realised that this Care Package was from Soph, I was so taken aback that I tore the brown paper open (can't quite believe it myself). I was beyond excited. The brown paper revealed a cute red box tied up with more string. Soph LOVES red. I LOVE string. I looked at the box and chanted in my head, "please be Soph's choc orange brownies, please be Soph's choc orange brownies, please be Soph's choc orange brownies.....".
AND IT WAS! Happy days people and back away children.
Receiving something so unexpected is a reminder of the importance of showing people you care for them. Soph didn't have to do this for me. But she did. Wow. She took time out of her crazy schedule to make some delicious confection, package it beautifully and post it my way. Such kindness. Such generosity. Such thoughtfulness. Such love.
You are a treasure Black Sheep. You're gesture is a good reminder to me to be a better friend to you. Watch that mailbox for a return surprise. Does it have to be low fat?
Much love. Thanks.
